My Power of One

My Power of One
By Sue Vicory

In 2002 I decided to try on a new career and go to film school. Upon completion I chose to tackle a documentary film. My first film “Homelessness and the Power of One” turned into a three year journey across our country through fifteen cities from coast to coast. It was the ultimate labor of love. I sat in parks, under bushes, in shelters from Harlem to Skid Row and met face to face our nation’s homeless. I also fell in love with the possibility that lies within My Power of One. I was inspired by the stories I heard from former crack heads, prostitutes and ex-felons who were no longer on the streets. In every instance there was ONE person who stepped up and made a lasting difference in their lives, someone who believed in and inspired them to reach for better life choices. That one person empowered them to risk change. My little ten minute film has since funded over $200,000 for homeless shelters and is clearly an example of My Power of One.

My inspiration for a national and global My Power of One movement was born out of that film project. My intention to take that message across the country and birth a movement over the next few years is radical. Yet it is an extraordinary opportunity to believe in, inspire and empower one person at a time to engage in their very own Power of One. I will visit all four corners of our country over the next few years and engage in community activities in each. I will speak to groups large and small along the way to build an audience for the message. My Power of One will connect a nation and then the world, one person at a time. I invite you to come along with the guarantee that your life will be forever changed. Bring a friend.
