Inspire
I am Inspired
Inspiring someone is truly an easy task. Here is my story as case in point. During the years of film production on the homeless project I had an idea that I would set up a mentorship program at my church with one of the local shelters. My vision was to connect folks from our congregation with current homeless families and build a relationship which would benefit all parties in many ways. In visiting with the closest family shelter in our community I was referred to a woman whom had been in their shelter in recent years but now was living independently in the community. I called her up and went for a visit. Our worlds collided on that spring day in 2005 and neither of us has ever been the same. Stephanie was no ordinary ex-homeless individual. She, her husband and two children landed in the shelter for a number of months despite a college degree and previous successful jobs. I learned that day of her extreme talent, motivation and drive, though her confidence had taken a serious hit. Without much thought I brought her into my circle of influence with great pride. She had vision and dreams like everyone else. I identified her as someone special and let her know on no uncertain terms.
Stephanie went on to organize an advisory board to help pull off the premiere for my homeless film. It was a sold out one of a kind night that shook up all who attended. I have not been without her help since. The happy ending to this story is that Stephanie and her family now live in their very lovely first home and her husband has an amazing full time job at one our city`s most respected employers. Stephanie herself has launched a graphic design business and has more customers than she can imagine. I`m not sure who inspired the other more but together we have become quite a team.
My point being, it is just that easy to inspire someone to be their best. Starting by believing in them as a human being and then asking of them to reach for their highest self. We each are put here with an incredible purpose and sometimes it takes another person to point that out to you. Please consider inspiring someone out of the ordinary today! It will make a world of difference to you both.
